BBC Watchers: What did you think of the American version of 'Life on Mars'? And Why?

Personally, there were certain aspects of the American version I liked better. Frankly, I got more of the references - this, of course, having to do with the fact that I am American and not British. Everything just looked and felt more familiar. I assumed that the little bug that looked like a Mars rover were just a reference to the current rover and was completely thrown by the American ending.

I do like that there are not trying to keep it going for six seasons, but I think that I actually liked the ambiguity of of the BBC ending better. My daughter and I discussed how American cinema/TV and how everything has to be resolved in the end. She said that the unresolved nature of ending of unamericanized Japanese anime made you think of the possibilities. She felt that this was often better.
