trouble with photoshop
I am trying to install the trial version of photoshop for a class, but whenever I run the setup I get this error:

All honesty I would email Adobe about that. Looks like it might be something with your download missing a packet.

If your class is photo shop centric - you're in a bad situation. I could rant on about M$ and PhotoShop, but that wouldn't do you any good.
If all you need for your class is the ability to do graphics and adjust photos - I would recommend you abandon photo shop and get your self a FREE copy of an Open Source Program called the GIMP. You will find powerful features including layering (think of Disney animators painting backgrounds, foregrounds and character transparent sheets - then layering them together to render a scene). You will also find a lot more real help on the web (i.e. hardly any advertising to none and certainly free help for the asking) regarding this program. And you will be able to find a copy of GIMP that will run on just about any computer you have heard of (Apple Macs & IBM PCs) and some you haven't (Sun Microsystems).

Did you try to google "photoshop Exit Code: 6"?
This problem is all over the web and on adobe.com's web site. And, after spending several minutes reading, apparently with no clear solution. More reason to abandon photo shop and M$. The only thing I picked up on is that some people have use something referred as CS5 (a version number?) successfully on Vista but not on Windows7 machines.

the course is using Photoshop so gimp wont work(I use it all the time already), I was able to install it by installing the msi files before running the setup.exe, for some reason I had to plug in hy external hard drive for these to install but it is running fine now, the version is CS5 and it is running on windows 7. got it working with this solution so if anyone else encounters this problem you fix it that way.

its not a school computer, I am using my own laptop for the course, I did manage to solve the problem by installing yhr msi files first. also it helps to have the wireless disabled. thanks all the same.
Also check that you downloaded the right package for your machine. Specifically the 32bit vs. 64bit install will only work on the right 32 or 64bit system. It's your operating system that must be compatible, not just the hardware.
Also you need Admin permissions which if it's a school computer you might not have.
