1)
The easiest way would be to buy advertising from BYU. You can find out about BYU advertising programs here: http://nn.byu.edu/advertising/services.cfm

Specifically, I think that advertising the vacation home in the online sponsorship and special promotions programs would work well. Timing both online ad buys with school holidays and semester slowdowns would be key.

2)
Flyers work well at Universities.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but hire two attractive people - men or women - to hand out flyers that promote a "special deal" at your LDS vacation home. The only reason that looks have anything to do with this is that you want people to take and view the flyer - sadly, our society interprets good looks with popularity and a sense of belonging.

I might make the flyers look like concert tickets. There are a variety of online discount print shops that print "bookmarks" that when designed to look like a ticket turn out exceptionally well.

3)
Whisper campaign.

Give 20 socially active students a deep discount on lodging. Ensure that they know that they are being given this discount in exchange for them telling their friends how excited they are about the trip to the vacation home.

Require that these students use at least 5 methods of communication to spread their excitement. Facebook, twitter, email, direct person-to-person, etc.

4)
Have a website created.

Nothing (and I mean nothing) sells a vacation property more then outstanding photos, video and descriptive text.

Your website should look as good or better then the property itself. University students will absolutely require that your vacation property be online.

5)
Sponsorship.

Sponsoring school teams, activities and specific classes is useful. Not only does it help the school, but the students involved in these activities are directly exposed to your message.

I hope that these 5 points have helped you out! Best of luck marketing your LDS vacation home!

Thank you, great ideas! I like the flyer in ticket form best so I'll try that first.

Thanks Marcand, Robbrown's answer included that idea also, however, I want to only target the BYU Hawaii campus and I couldn't figure out how to do that when I went to the site. Is there a newspaper online or off that is just for the Hawaii campus? Thanks, Dorothy

1. Can you contact them and ask if it is possible to
be mentioned in this handbook - provide a brief article on
LDS vacation housing? with photo(s)? with any
students in it if you have their permission to use?
Can you put an ad in here as folks will consult it
throughout the year.

University Housing: Off Campus Handbook
http://services.byuh.edu/files/OffCampusHandBook.pdf

2. Can you register here as an owner in the Housing Guide
and list your property as a short term rental/holiday home?
whatever category or categories suit - summer housing?
Faculty/staff may have more money for summer/vacation housing
as a retreat, so include that category unless you wish only students.
For faculty maybe you can list a longer term with special price for that
notice and negotiate. Can you also list in the housing page of the
other LDS campuses everywhere else in the world and advertise your
student/faculty housing as folks going on holiday may want to come
to Hawaii to LDS accomodation even though they live elsewhere regularly.
http://services.byuh.edu/Housing/Off_Campus

With that in mind, Hawaii being a desireable usually too expensive location,
can you advertise in any LDS associations offering a retreat for faculty,
getaway for students with proximity to the LDS campus for summer school etc. whatever circumstances you can offer.

3. Can you contact the Missionary Coordinator and ask advice/offer
your vacation home services because this office would be in contact
with all incoming missionaries and maybe you they would recommend
your home in any communication with incoming missionaries for a temporary
or longer term housing - if that would interest you that is, they must
have a list of short-stay housing they recommend for incoming or visiting
missionairies - who are often students. I notice they have events at BYU,
like family home evening, do you have some slides or a video of your vacation
home that you could give a ten or fifteen minute presentation and ask about
an appropriate event to do so? then bring at least business cards, or
a coupon page for maybe something off the first day, a free day after so
many days in a row, etc. with photo and contact info, or ask if
there is any newsletter or email list that you could provide a brief
blurb for that they could send out for informational purposes
http://apps.byuh.edu/missionaries/Missionary_Coordinator.php
Here is the missionaries contact page for the campus.
http://apps.byuh.edu/missionaries/Contact_Us.php

4. Here are current missionaries if you are interested in contacting them
directly about your vacation home.
http://apps.byuh.edu/missionaries/Current_Missionaries.php

5. You may want to use this
page to do things like ask about how to contact the alumni association,
then once you have a contact ask to be featured in their alumni newsletter
either with an ad or a brief story or a photo, especially if you have
any photos of alumni at your home, or write an invitation few paragraphs
with a photo to alumni to return to their alma matter for a holiday
and stay in your vacation home etc. See bottom of page for link to their
current alumni newsletter.
http://w2.byuh.edu/alumni/

6. You may want to ask University Relations at (808) 675-3660.
from this University Communications page if it is appropriate
to present an invitation to BYU students, faculty, staff, missionaries
to take a brief or longer visit to your LDS vacation home and
perhaps make some kind of a discount or other offer, eg. for longer
stays, or accumulate ponts on stays so that you get one stay free etc.
or a deep discount on the first night stay etc. and offer a photo also.
Also ask communications if there is an internal listserv, intranet,
discussion list, website where the community would go and ask if you
could post, or if they would post something for you and ask for any
guidelines as to length/content/etc. also including your web/blog
address for more info.
http://ur.byuh.edu/
Here is the University Bulletin submission form
http://ur.byuh.edu/university_bulletin

7. If you don't have one, consider getting a website
or blog with some photos, and brief info so that you
can include that with all communication, and an email
address. Many students use electronic communication.
If you do not know of free website locations and blog locations,
search for them in the searchbox at http://www.mahalo.com/answers
under Answers or ask that question on Mahalo Answers.

8. I would highly recommend if possible taking a free tour of the
campus, they even list "a guest seeking to connect with the university"
as a category. Then come with questions, business cards to hand out,
find out procedures for posting notices on campus bulletin boards
and perhaps bring some fliers with photos (bring your own tacks, tape
in case there is none) or check with Communications before the tour
to find out if you need ads approval stamped by them first, etc.
Then you will be able to find out more about your target audience,
their community, and maybe get tips on how to make contacts, eg.
is there some community volunteer organzation or meeting where
you could join and casually tell folks about your home? etc.
http://www.byuh.edu/about/visits.php

9. Are you on Facebook? MySpace? etc. you can do web searches
of the name of the university to find any unofficial or official page(s) or ask Communications about it, or any other official electronic site on the web. eg. Twitter, blog. Then when you see what kind of information is posted there and decide whether there is any opportunity for you to mention your vacation home - often a picture is worth a thousand words.

10. Are you long distance from the university? can you phone the switchboard and ask to be connected to every single department and speak to a departmental secretary and ask things like, is there a departmental email or other communication source - could you submit something to it directly or ask them to submit it for you, that could be as simple as printing out an email you send and posting it on a bulletin board. Ask if there is a separate information source for students and faculty and if you decide to go after both, have separate blurbs for each group, or perhaps this can all be done better electronically. University Communications would probably know.
