It seems like a lot of items are imported into New York City, everything from groceries, clothing, to cars. Most items are not made here in the city, simply because it would cost a lot, and there is not much room to manufacture goods here in the city. For every item that is sold in stores, whether it's a major department store or a small store, it most likely was not made in New York City. If you could name an item, any item like a consumer good, or a consumer staple item, it's likely it was not manufactured in the city.

What types of merchandise are imported into New York?
Paul Krugman, in his book, "The accidental theorist" says, "If New York's numbers (import) were counted separately, we would no longer treat goods imported into New York as debit items in the US balance of payments." "New York is not in the business of producing items." What does New York import? (what types of foreign foods, cars, clothing, and electronics)
