Lordy! Lordy! I grew up in Texas. In fact, I grew up in a little town which was dubbed "The Cowboy Capital of the World" here in Texas. There are dude ranches all over the place out here! A regular ranch is a working ranch where different animals or crops are raised to be sold at market or auction. A dude ranch is an entirely different entity! A dude ranch is kind of a resort of sorts. It's a place where people who are fascinated with cowboys and horses and the old west and such can go out and stay on this ranch and have some cowboy fun, like hay rides, horseback riding, rodeos, roping venues, etc.

So, basically, a ranch is simply a place to raise livestock or crops for profit while a dude ranch is a place that makes money by attracting tourists and offering lodging, food, and entertainment.
