Your best bet is going to El Zocalo (or plaza de la constitution in Mexico City).
This plaza measures an impressive 800 * 800 feet!
This plaza is lined by the "Cathedral, Templo Mayor Museum, Palacio Nacional, and government and commercial buildings."
Definitely a place to go if you are in Mexico City.
It is always lively, people always congregate in El Zocalo, having some sort of entertainment there is very probable, the evening hours are the most crowded.
I personally wouldn't recommend touring Mexico City but Tulum, a beautiful place, the picture you see below is from there. There is the beach and Mayan temples.
