When I lived in OC, I was right across the street from the South Coast Metro Shopping Center. I don't know what qualifies as "must see" for a mall, but it was quite nice. Besides the main mall, you can walk to just about any store you can imagine in the immediately surrounding area. There is also a very nice movie theater, and tons of restaurants.

They like to call the area South Coast Metro, but it's essentially Santa Ana. I don't miss Southern CA, but damn I do miss the shopping/restaurant scene.

A little further away is the Irvine Spectrum, which can get overrun by teenagers going to the big movie theater on a Friday night and has more outdoor areas than South Coast:

I used to live in California, now I live in Montana. The only thing I really miss is the shopping.

Not too far away from South Coast is Fashion Island, which is a little bit more geared towards clothing stores: http://www.shopfashionisland.com
