Charleston is becoming renown for it's excellent restaurants and world-class chefs. Here are a few suggestions:
For upscale Lowcoutry dining (think shrimp and grits, lots of seafood, collard greens, etc. with a bit of finesse), try: Magnolias, High Cotton, S.N.O.B. (Slightly North of Broad), or Blossom. All of these are excellent - S.N.O.B. is probably the most casual, especially for lunch, while I had a wonderful special occasion dinner at High Cotton.
For more casual Lowcountry favorites, try the landmark Hominy Grill.
For Southern style fried seafood and just about everything else fried, visit Fleet Landing. This old, converted Navy building is right on the water so the views are unbeatable.
For casual and delicious French fare, try one of my favorites, 39 Rue de John.

Bon appetit!
