I searche dall my travel sources, The only way to get a cheaper flight is if you travel on the 9th instead of the 8th, the price through www.orbitz.com with northwest is $356, saving you almost $250 dollars if you are willing to fly a day later. otherwise prices for the 8th are just continuing to get more and more expensive. might be worth keeping the 250 and losing a day.

What you have to do is to commit to a day you can travel. You use a credit card to back your bid. You tell them the price you want and they will search for someone who will take that bid. If they find them, they will automatically charge your card and you have non-refundable tickets at your price. You may need to flex with your price or time a bit, but good deals can be found. When all else fails and time is getting short, this is the cheapest way to fly that I know.

Is there a way to get a cheaper flight?
I checked travelocity and priceline yesterday and I found the flight I needed for $406. I checked again today to book the flight and it has gone up to $545 for the same flight (that's $600 after taxes). Is there some way to get this cheaper?

• Thanks for all the research! Your answer was quite helpful. After weighing my options, I have decided that the time is more important than the cost so I have booked the more expensive flight. But this is definitely food for thought for the next time I fly. I appreciate your time.

FNT to TRI. Flying in on 1/8/09. Return flight on 1/12/09. Anytime is ok but I would prefer an early flight on 1/8/09.

If you are flexible Priceline.com does work. You can normally cut anywhere from 25% to 50% of the cost of your flight. We had to fly to across country and were able to save about 40% off of the best price we had found. Try looking on Farecast.com to see if the fare is most likely going to go down or up. With recent drops in fuel prices airlines are starting to drop their fuel surcharge but this won't likely have a roll on effect for airfare for sometime. Though I have not tried it myself, you might want to look into Yapta? Apparently you can track flights and fees and if the price of a ticket drops after you buy, the site can help you get a refund in "travel credits" http://www.yapta.com/
