The presidential trail is an easy going hike. It begins at the main viewing terrace, and is about a mile long. It goes up to directly under the carving.

3 more trails, but more strenuous, and further away:
"the Centennial Trail and several Black Elk Wilderness trails cross within parts of the Mt. Rushmore Memorial boundary but they are away from the monument itself. It is possible to walk from Keystone up to Mt. Rushmore, but the walk is two miles -- up hill all the way -- along Highway 244. "

Well, when you go towards the mountain down into the amphitheatre from the museum there is a path set to go about the site and give you great views of the monument and is VERY easy... then there is all the splunking in the beautiful caves such as Wind Cave and Jewel Cave, Reptile Gardens just outside Rapid City on the way to Mount Rushmore is a great place to go for the afernoon or the whole day and see huge reptiles, bugs, insects, birds, and little prairie dogs, or Dark Canyon Coffee inside Rapid which has THE BEST freshly brewed coffee, ground there in the shop as well as coffee pots, mugs, and CHOCOLATE!!
