From what I have read, it's not really a 'fast' in the purest sense of the word.
Dr. Lawrence Bryson recommends a few days before a trip to alternate the days of heavier meals and light meals, but not a complete fast.
It also covers the obvious such as staying hydrated and not drinking alcohol during your flight.
