If you are a member of Sam's Club, they have great deals on trips. They have a trip to Oahu 4 nights for $499 (minus airfare). They have other great deals too.

I recommend Punta Cana in Dominican Republic. There's a lot of things to do, including hiking, scuba diving, sailing, swimming, and adventure rides where you do things like ride down a long zip line. It's also very safe for tourists. The beaches go out for miles and miles, and they have both tourists and locals around there. There's always a random person ready to entertain you for some pesos, or sell you jewelry for really cheap.
You can find vacation deals pretty easily. I'd recommend going to a local travel agent and getting info from them. If you go straight to online sources, go to reputable places that you've already heard of.
Prices: You can do the whole trip for less than $1500 each easily, all inclusive.

Me and my cousins went a couple years ago and we had a ball.
Some things to keep in mind, some of the locals there can be a tad ?scary?.
A couple of tips to take with you if you decide on this destination point.
• Don't carry a lot of cash or wear expensive jewelry.
• Travel on main roads and during daylight hours.
• Don't leave valuables unattended in parked cars or on the beach.
• Take hotel taxis. (VERY IMPORTANT!)
• Watch your alcohol intake in clubs and other public places.
Also don't get lost because you won't know heads from tails where you are and the local taxi drivers can be very scary characters.
Kind Regards,
Good Luck

However, if you really want a *warm* vacation, go to Guam ($2500/person airfare, + about $250/day expenses). Temperatures are usually 85+ degrees Fahrenheit, and although a bit humid and a bit of rain, the wind usually makes up for it.

Flying out of Midland to New Orleans on Southwest leaving out the 19th and returning on the 25 (both cheaper days to fly) will cost about $125 each way.
They have hotels in every price range imaginable, from inexpensive 60 dollar a night Motel 6 type rooms all the way up to $4,000 a night penthouses.
And the kicker? No itinerary needed. Head down, check out what parades start when, and wander around the city a bit. Enjoy a few drinks and shops on Bourbon street and enjoy a buggy ride through downtown. (They even have buggy rides through the "haunted" district if that's what floats your boat.)
The food is unbelievable. Brenner's would be my recommendation for a luxury French-Creole style meal. For all other meals (to keep the cost down) I would check out the corner Mom and Pop restaurants for authentic Cajun cuisine.
Hope to have helped some and can't wait to hear what you decide!

I would probably choose San Diego even though January would not be beach weather. It's a gorgeous coastal city with lots of fun things to do. Some of the less expensive choices:
1. Hiking along the coast, the desert to the east, or the hills.
2. A bay cruise on the Bahia Belle is only $6 per person.
3. The ferry from downtown San Diego to Coronado Island is only $3 each way.
4. Go wine tasting. There are wineries in the Northern area of San Diego and in the historic town of Julian, which is famous for its apple pies.
5. Walk along the beach, watch the sunset into the ocean.
6. Explore Balboa Park. There are so many interesting museums and gardens. The different museums rotate on Tuesdays with free admission to a specified museum each week. Gardens and Botanical Building are always free.
7. Kayaking and biking are popular activities.
8. Major attractions include the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Wild Animal Park and Legoland.
There are lots of budget hotels in San Diego starting at only $50 a night. One of my favorite budget hotels in San Diego is Kings Inn, centrally located in Hotel Circle. I searched their website for midJanuary rates and they ranged from $60-$70. If you are an AAA member, this rate would be less.

But I recommend just going to www.southwest.com and finding any flight from your city to a warm usa destination. For example, if you live in Chicago, then find a Chicago to Florida, or Vegas, or Arizona, or Texas flight as one of their $49 deals and just do it. Find a cheap and nice hotel at www.tripadvisor.com and just go for it. You'll find you can have a good time in any city if you put your mind to it. And you can keep it real cheap, while still finding a nice warm place to stay. Try to fly somewhere in Texas and then drive to the Gulf coast. Southwest has plenty of texas flights and maybe you can go to Galveston and hit the beach.
Good luck.

3. Lastminute.com
Kayak and farecast will aggregate infor for you across the web, finding you the cheapest deal possible. You can save specific searches and have them emailed to you when prices change.
Lastminute.com is exactly that. You can find ultra cheap deals for last minute trips. My wife and I once did a 4 day weekend in San Juan Puerto Rico for $600. That included both flights and hotel. We left from Philly.
I'd recommend San Juan too. It was a great trip, warm, great food, and the old part of town has tons of charm. Best part, no passports, no customs, no exchange rates, and beautiful tropic place.

Cheap, warm, winter vacation ideas?
My Mister and I would like to go somewhere warm to get away from the 5 degree weather we're having. The trip would be sometime in Febuary 2009.
Can you suggest cheap vacation ideas to warm destinations? Please provide some general cost estimates for lodging and travel, and some fun stuff to do at the locale. We are in the midwest, so Chicao would be a good baseline as far as airfare (if airfare is suggested).

The best value for the temperature difference will probably be Miami ($250 airfare per person, + about $200/day expenses for hotel and food). If you want even warmer temperatures, you can either go to Puerto Rico or Hawaii -- Puerto Rico will likely be cheaper. However, if you really want a *warm* vacation, go to Guam ($2500/person airfare, + about $250/day expenses). Temperatures are usually 85+ degrees Fahrenheit, and although a bit humid and a bit of rain, the wind usually makes up for it.

1) Take a trip on a casino boat. If you do not gamble, it is the cheapest holidays you can get. All the old ladies of my neighborhood do that (it is rather hilarious). If you like to gamble and to party, do not even try: then it is very expensive. 2) If you know another language, you might get a trip for free as a translator on any tour.

OOPS! You mean that she would not want to work? Lots of people work on vacation, for instance getting into an archeological dig or rebuilding a house or learning a new craft, or cleaning a river: it is a lot of fun because it is about making friends in a community. It is also cheap, but the possibilities depend on how old are the kids.

Now that gas is below $2 a gallon, this is the best time to get in your car and drive to LA. You could visit Mahalo world headquarters, and get some time in at the beach. You could hit Hollywood and Highland and have some shabbu shabbu. Or hit Westwood and eat at Gyu Kyku (the world's most delicious Korean restaurant). Then once the air and grit begin to get to your lungs, jump in the car and head home. It will be the best, cheapest vacation you ever had.

I did this last year and had such a nice time, go to puerto rico, specifically the island of culebra off the coast, Very cheap to fly to weather is always 80 degrees, culebra boasts the worlds nicest beach, flamenco beach, it is a small island so you don't need a car, you can get everywhere by bicycle or rent a scooter or walk, the snorkling is unreal since puerto rico is still US there are no problems with exchanging money and all the other stuff that comes with foreign travel everyone speaks english.

Try to pick a city served by one of the cheaper airlines such as Southwest or Jet Blue. Be flexible in your dates to get the cheapest rates. Consider Las Vegas, San Diego, and Phoenix/Scottsdale/Sedona areas. All would be warmer than where you are and offer some budget lodging. I would probably choose San Diego even though January would not be beach weather. It's a gorgeous coastal city with lots of fun things to do. Some of the less expensive choices:
