First, you can visit Graceland, home of Elvis Presley. More than 600,000 people visit each year. It costs between $13 and $69 and the hours are from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Saturday and 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday. Visitors can go anywhere in the house except for upstairs. There is a tour that goes through the trophy room which all awards, memorabilia and gold records are found. It continues outside through the stables and the gardens to where Elvis was buried.
There are tours available at the International Rockabilly Hall of Fame & Museum between 10 am and 5 pm Monday through Thursday and 10 am to 2 pm Friday and Saturday. Sixteen musicians are featured with life sized oil panting which hang in the museum. The Casey Jones Village is the original home where Jones and his family lived in 1900. Jones earned the reputation as one of the best railroad engineers of the late 1800's. A train station the opened in 2009 recreates the 1890s train station. Visitors can go on the cab of a 130 ton engine that was very similar to the kind that Jones rode. There is also a restaurant and a gift shop available at the village.
The Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum is open from 10 am to 7 pm daily. The museum basically tells the history of music in Memphis. There is an audio tour takes visitors through 7 galleries of exhibits featuring more than 30 instruments and 40 costumes.
The Stax Museum of American Soul Music is a museum featuring 2,000 interactive exhibits, films, artifacts, items of memorabilia and galleries. It's the soul music museum in the world and is open Tuesday through Sunday all year around and closed on Monday.
Other great attractions are visits to the Memphis Zoo and 90 minute rides on the Memphis Riverboats. Call for prices on the boat rides, which run daily from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The zoo prices are $15 for adults and $10 for children and is open all year.
