TomTom, Magellan, or Garmin? Which GPS manufacturer has the better interface?

I have a TomTom Go 720 but have also used a very old Magellan and an entry level Garmin Nuvi. I am wondering if any of the other brands are better than what I bought.
Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I own a TomTom One (original) and have used a Garmin. The Garmin was very confusing to me.

I like the TomTom because you can modify it and there's a great user community. http://www.tomtomforums.com/

The user community and the ability to download updated maps (at no additional charge) and offer changes to maps (MapShare) was a key selling point for me.

Are you going to buy a new one? Or are you checking if you bought the right one? If you still have to buy one, you should also look at Navigon (http://navigonusa.com/) They have models with all the options like real-time traffic and updates of maps. But I really like their Landmark view.

I have already bought one. I'm not checking to see if I bought the right one I would like to get a feel for other people's impressions of the other brands as there may be features that I missed. I tend to recommend various Consumer Electronic devices for friends and family so I like to have as much info as possible to provide as unbiased a recommendation as possible

I have TomTom and Garmin and prefer TomTom's UI. It's just easier to use and shows the directions and map clearer.

The UI was what really got me to look at the TomTom but then I heard some bad things regarding lack of updated maps until recently.

I have used TomTom for years and although I like the big easy to read buttons on the home screen, overall I am not impressed with the interface. So many things (volume control) have the most non intuitive method of being accessed.

As a tech person I don't mind a little trial and error or experimentation with different options, but I am hesitant to recommend them to people I know.
