On September 6, 2009 Chrysler Jeep organizes the 22th largest Labor Day fireworks show. The show, paraphrased as Boomsday is part of a free festival, yearly attended by over 400,000 people, young and old. Fireworks start at at 9:30 p.m. and will last 30 minutes. http://www.boomsday.org/

For me, the day is about finishing the holidays and having fun:

For the last day of the Labor Day weekend, Sunday, Sept 6., you can choose from a variety of events to pass away the time. If you like running, go to Italy for the World Mountain Running Championships, Virginia Beach if you want to be cheered on by high school bands and cheerleaders, Portland if you want to run in a historic district, and Mauai if you want..... well you know... Virginia Beach also has Black Crowes, Boyz II and Heart playing a concert in the evening for all those tired folks.

If you are into extreme fireworks, go to what is touted as the largest display in the nation in Knoxville, TN - the 2009 Chrysler Jeep Boomsday, or you can stay at home, have a barbeque and see the measly displays in your own hometown.

If Jazz is your bag, you can go to Detroit or Chicago. Detroit has the International Jazz Festival, which starts on the 4th. On the 6th there are 16 different artists lined up, including the legendary Heath Brothers, the world premiere of Gerald Wilson’s tribute to Detroit, the Pete Escovedo Latin Jazz Orchestra featuring Juan Escovedo, and the incomparable Wayne Shorter Quartet featuring Brian Blade, John Patitucci and Danilo Perez. The Chicago Jazz Festival has artists lined up on four different stages.

For something altogether different, go to Tahlequah, Ok for the 57th National Cherokee Holiday. The is something for everyone, golf in the morning, arts and crafts, traditional games, children's events and bluegrass/gospel music. And, to boot, there is a free hog feed.

Singing is the theme at the California State Fair, where the State Karaoke Championship will be held at the Jackson Rancheria Casino and Hotel. I'll bet that there will be fireworks at the state fair as well in the evening, as well as all of the traditional attractions to be found.

If you are in Italy, and the World Mountain Running Championship isn't interesting, you could find the pope touring in Viterbo and Bagnoregio.
