You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As long as you paid for the diapers I don't see it being a legal problem and so the cops would be wasting their time to follow up the call to begin with.
Nobody is going to take your kids for running in a store.

I did pay for the diapers, someone jus saw them alone in the car n told security security reported to police n called cps n wrote me up for child neglect, I have never neglected my child, or bn reported to cps, I jus got scared because it was a small mistake that became like this big deal of leaving them in the car, everyone that knows me knows I'm a good mother, i'm scared that the court will think otherwise n take them from me =(
Ah, I understand now. The cops will have to follow something like that up, but in most cases they are not bad guys.
You have a couple of options, say nothing and work it out with lawyers, or talk it out with the cops.
Obviously leaving the kids in the car was not a good call, but look at it logically:
1) It is hard enough for them to take kids away from parents who really do endanger their children.
2) It costs money to place children in care.
Do you have access to legal aid? If you do, give them a call and explain the situation. They will be able to give you advice that is relevant to the area in which you live.
If not, then simply talking things through with the police might be the best way. The worst thing to do when talking to police is to be confrontational. Be aware of your rights, but be respectful, if they like you they are more likely to hear your side of the story and to help you out.
Great advice, csmagor; I'm glad you were here at the right moment to assist mrscain! And, I can certainly see why you initially misinterpreted - just one letter difference between "cops" and "cps" (which likely depending on the state - stands for "Child Protective Services").
