Will the TivoHD work with standard cable and TV? Or is a Cable card required?
My parents have a tube TV and standard cable. I wanted to make sure their system was upgradable so I bought them the Tivo HD after reviewing this chart (https://www3.tivo.com/store/boxes.do?Wt.ac=shophome_compareDVRs_compareDVRsdet_img#tab_dvrcompare). Now that we open the box, it looks like you need a Cable Card to make the Tivo HD work.

Cable card decoder is required to receive digital and HDTV. According to their website, The CableCARD™ replaces your cable box, and tells the TiVo DVR which channels you are authorized to receive. Call your cable company to schedule the installation of a CableCARD decoder into your TiVo HD.
The standard TV is fine, but you will need a cable card, according to their chart. You can still get an antenna signal, though.
