Has anyone used the DTVPal DVR by Dish Network for OTA programs and how do you like it?

http://dtvpal.com/ This is one of very few (the only?) DVR on the market that is standalone and doesn't require a subscription like the TiVO.

I've got a friend with Dish Network who's used it. he enjoys it. it's basically more like a VCR than anything else, but does the job. I found a review of it on c-net if interested:
