My top ten would look like this:
1. Dragon Age: Origins. I'm a RPG fan and until Diablo 3 comes out, I think this game will be the only RPG I'll play. It's a must have for me and for every RPG fan!

2. Assassin's Creed II . Honestly, what I really love at this game was the story-line. Good graphics too, but the story is amazing.

3. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 . Just because like everybody else, I am a saga fan and this game has almost everything a shooter can have. But not enough to put it on first place.

Last 2 games are for PSP. That "little guy" is my best friend when I'm stuck on the road, in the car.
9. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Because when I can't move in real traffic, this game helps me to move in the virtual world! :)))

This is my top 10. Games I own and play. Unfortunately a top 10 is too small to list all the games I enjoyed this year. So...I would love to answer this question with a TOP 100 in 2010! 2010 is a great year for gamers! :D
Best regards,
Vladis

M$I must agree with Time's list having Modern Warfare 2 number one. Though I do not like everything about the game, it is the best I know of.
I would say that The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is best and I really hoped it was a good game, but after learning more about it I must admit, they did not put in the work that it deserved. With bugs, impersonations (of characters I frankly could not image anyone but their actors playing), poor AI that stand and stare at walls, and the fact that it did not capture the feeling of the movie nor books. I am a fan of all LOTR but unless I play the game I cannot be sure really how good it is.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has intense action and I have read that it conveys the feelings of battling all around the world very well. It has action sequences that are memorable and challenging. Though I have read that they took out the "lean" motion which is one unique move I enjoyed (I have played the first Call Of Duty). They also made the online multiplayer system strange and quite impersonal, in my opinion. You cannot get to know much people as it switches you to different servers in the middle of games and whenever it feels it found a faster connection or you are too good for that level of players. They should let the players choose which server they want to play in. I have also read that the single player campaign is quite short which is a negative as well.
From what I know of 2009 video games, that is my opinion. Do you have a top game of 2009 Mithrandir? (neat name by the way!).

M$Ok, I’ll stick to the ones I actually played (and I play LOTS of games), or at least saw the demo of.
1. Uncharted 2: No doubt, best game this year. Best graphics, best story, best innovation in a sequel.
2. Assassin’s Creed 2: Great production value, excellent graphics, and great value for money. Too bad the multiplatform development shows (popups, bad lip-sync)
3. Demon’s Souls: Old school difficulty, clever level design, HUGE end-bosses.
4. Batman: Arkham Asylum: The exception to the rule that movie-based games suck. Great production values and love for the theme by the development team are evident in each and every aspect of this great game. At first I was wondering whether a game on one location (the Asylum) wouldn’t be too limited, but it proved quite the contrary. Great story, lots of side-quests. Movie-tie-ins should take this one as their reference.
5. Infamous: An excellent good-bad action-adventure for Playstation 3. Nice storyline
6. FIFA 10: Not as innovative as last year, but still the best sports game available. Miles ahead of the competition, combining excellent graphics with deep gameplay possibilities.
7. Colin McRae: Dirt 2: After last year’s GRiD, now DiRT has gotten the graphics make-over. DiRT has been improved in just about every aspect of the game, making each track a thrillride. Awesome!
8. God of War Collection: This is a remake of old PS2 games, and ‘just’ a stepping stone to the God of War 3 release next year, but a prime example of how re-releases should be done. Souped up graphics, excellent gameplay, and the addition of trophies and the GoW3 demo make this a winner.
9. Flower: a very interesting, innovative game. No hacking and slashing, but simply guiding the wind to move a petal along. Brilliant in its simplicity.
10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: I haven’t played this one myself, I’m not really a fan of FPS games, but no top-10 is complete without it. So, placed it at #10. Maybe once I get to play it, it will creep up.
Nice list Mithrandir! You made me want to try some of these games out.
1. Modern Warfare 2
Every penny spent on this game is worth it. The sales for this game speak volumes
2.Killzone 2
Finally Sony have a game that can rival Halo
3.Resident Evil 5
One of the best franchise in the history of gaming . This is what you would expect from Capcom consistent gaming for the fans and as usual hardly disappointed one of the best games of the year for sure.
4.Halo Wars
5.Assassin's Creed 2
A master piece which clears up the mystery in the previous installment.Just way kool being an Assassin and even better when you can do it without the actually physical harm.
6. Wii Fit
I use to sell games and before these generations of systems where release a lot of gamers had Nintendo written off i told them it was to hasty to say Nintendo will fail. The Wii Fit is just one of the games that have revolutionize the industry and place Nintendo at the summit for the time being. Totaly different form your pad pushing game it uses the board to bring more fun and enjoyment which is the philosophy of Nintendo
7 .Batman: Arkham Asylum
It is very rare for gamers to get an outstanding game from an outstanding movie. It seams that good things come to those who wait, By the way batman is my favorite superhero.
8.Uncharted 2
9.Fifa 2010
The best sport in the world surely deserve a great game for it. One of the best Fifa installments ever.
10.DJ Hero
These are my top 10 pick do enjoy

M$1. Bayonetta Dark Void
2. Army of Two: The 40th Day
3. Assassin's Creed II
4. Modern Warfare 2
5. Modern Warfare: Reflex
6. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction, showed promise that it would take the series in a new direction while keeping some of the core gameplay concepts that made the series so popular in the first place.
7. The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
That cred has earned our full attention for the sequel, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.
8. Fight Night Round 4
It wasn’t much of a surprise that what Don King presented us in the video game world wasn’t much better than what he’s offered up to the professional boxing world as of late. Not to worry, however, as EA Canada is hard at work getting Fight Night Round 4 ready for the middle of 2009.
9. Brutal Legend
The open world, heavy metal misadventure known as Brutal Legend. The status of Brutal Legend was in limbo once Activision dropped it, but EA’s recent push to be a publishing princess has put Tim Schafer, Jack Black and lead roadie Eddie Riggs back in the studio.
10. Halo Wars
The game has a lot to live up to. For one, it’s a Halo game, the first one not done by Bungie (not counting Macintosh ports and so-on). Head writer Graeme Devine has been handed the keys to a very, very expensive car. But the other big expectation for Halo Wars has to do with an entire genre.

Thank you!

Avatar looked good, but the reviews haven't been positive. Has anyone heard anything else about this game?
I don't agree 2010 will be a bad year for Wii owners...Just several games to prove that...all will be released in 2010: Sin and Punishment 2,Monster Hunter 3, Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest ; Iron Man 2.
To answer your question Eatthatpopcorn, you should try these games. All released this month: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories ;Avatar and Rogue Trooper: Quartz Zone .
@Eatthatpopcorn: Wii users have had a tough year, and probably another tough year ahead. I'd suggest New Super Mario Bros, Madworld, or Wii The Beatles: Rock Band (or even worse: Wii Lego Rock Band)

Thank you bsin! There are many games I enjoyed this year, but a top 10 is too small...:)
Thanks again!
Vlad
Any suggestions for Wii owners?
I like your list. China Town Wars definitely deserves a mention. I love that game. I think I would swap tekken6 for Soul Caliber, but SC is pretty awesome.
excellent taste!
