The pages are How to Winterize your home,Eyeclops night vision infared stealth goggles, How to install an Interior door.
Any suggestions or help?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi @buttonpusher,

Since you haven't specified, I'm going to assume that you are using the page title as the keyword phrase. Doing a google search does indeed show your pages on page 2 for each of those searches. Let's take them one at a time...

How To Install An Interior Door

The first thing I would do to this page is get it in more categories. Every category you are in is an incoming link to the page. In this case, the only category it is in is "How To". That one is appropriate, but so are "Home & Garden" and "Maintenance & Repairs". Those are relevant pages that will give you some link juice and show your page is a little more important within Mahalo than it is now.

Next... I read over the page briefly. You have a lot of kewords and you have them spread pretty evenly. That's great. I'd recommend looking at your outbound links next...

Related pages are a key place to have the outbound links. You've done a great job of inlinking, and it looks like you took a list of those and put them here. That works, but I think we can tweak these a little, especially since a lot of the pages don't exist yet.

For instance, Hollow Core, Solid Core and Solid Wood might help you more if they were Hollow Core Doors, Solid Core Doors and Solid Wood Doors. Budget takes you to a household budget page... let's make it something like How To Budget For Home Improvements - then you can ask for the page if it isn't built yet and do it too. Take another look at your links with that in mind.

And even when you inlink you can change the actual text - you don't have to link to the exact phrase. So where you link to Hollow Core, Solid Core and Solid Wood in your text, you need that wording but the page name would be different. You change it within your brackets... (I'll use the wrong bracket style here for it to show... change them to the square bracket instead.) {{Hollow Core Doors|Hollow Core}} is how the coding works. Put the actual page name first, then the pipe | then the text you want to show.

Other than that... keep making small changes to the page and try to get more incoming links. That will make you rise over time as the page ages.

So my answer fits in the alloted space, I'll do the other two pages as comments...

my 2 cents and some personal experience...

How To Winterize Your Home

Again, look at the categories... add to "Home & Garden" and "Maintenance & Repair".

Now, the Guide Note. I realize that this is a "how to" and the page layout just changed but the guide note could use more content. I'd also like to let you know that this is where Google gets that little paragraph that it lists for your page. The first thing people see in your listing is "Coming Soon!" You are talking about winter, but most people won't even continue reading after that. I'd Move the Introduction up here, since we are going to be combining them from now on anyway, then I'd make sure the first sentence was great. You might even just want to remove the sentence you have there altogether and use the introduction as the complete guide note.

I think to get this page to the first page of Google results you will need to add more content. You have a great start, but you left a lot of built-in places you can expand. For instance, look at the page as a whole... How To Winterize Your Home. When you read the content you've told them all the things they will need to look at, but not how to go about it. This is actually a great lead in to make pages on each of those steps and link to them.

Instead of "My Basic Plan" I'd make that section something like "Basic Home Winterizing Checklist" Then tell them that there are places throughout their home that will need attention and this is a list of some of the most common. They may have additional items, and some of these might not be on the list they made, but this is a great starting place for them. Then say that additional information can be found by clicking the link for each item.

That lets you expand what you are saying a bit, then it gives you the opportunity to make all those other pages and tie them all together. When you do those pages, be sure to say on each one something like, "This procedure is one step in How To Winterize Your Home and more information can be found through that link.]] You can vary how you say it, but it will give you a relevant incoming link from each of those pages.

I always like having a little web of niche pages... it can go a long way to getting your pages ranked above others.

EyeClops Night Vision Infrared Stealth Goggles

I see you just took this page over today. You've already moved a lot of the sections around... so the SE's should notice a change when they come back.

I'm not sure why it is in the category "Christmas Shopping" as that is primarily for pages dealing with the shopping experience and not the products themselves. Consider removing it from there. It should be in "Shopping" and "Products". More sub-categories will be added to Shopping in the future, so watch for any technology or gadget related categories and drop this page in those when the time comes.

For related pages, again, Christmas is not really related. Christmas Gifts might be, but I wouldn't consider it a really relevant page. It doesn't help this page to have an outgoing link there. You might consider adding pages that would have keywords that are related, like Night Vision Goggles, Infra-red, Night Vision or Night Vision Technology... and the manufacturer is always related, so include Jakks.

Google looks at both outgoing and incoming links and they both factor into your ranking.

Other than those quick tips, you can look for new content to add... maybe a paragraph about night vision technology or maybe reviews of the product.

But whatever you do, make consistent changes over time and try to get incoming links from relevant places. Those two things are key to getting that front page listing.

Those are the main ideas I have for you. By making changes a few at a time, spread out over time, you show these are well-maintained resources and that's what Google is looking for and loves to showcase. Give them what they want and you will begin to rise to the top.
