This riddle apparently has an answer but I can't find it... does anyone know it?
Deaf steals $100 from Blind, and Mute sees it. How can Mute tell Blind what happened?
(assume they are on a dessert island with no special technology like computers)
I was told its a very simple answer... I've also been told things like "mute writes it on blind's hand" aren't right. Ideas?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

One of the variations uses the word both as in "There is a deaf man, a blind man and a mute man. They both have an orange".
This giving the hint that there are only two men on the island.
Thus the solution is that the man who is both mute and deaf can simply give the blind man back his orange/$100 (letting him know that he had stolen it in the first place).
The other answer deals with the final sentence:
"How can Mute tell Blind what happened? "
The answer is "he could tell him by saying he stole your $100".
In other words "if he wasn't mute, he would simply tell him".
This answers the question asked even though it is impossible for mute to actually do so because he is mute.

M$The mute man says to the deaf man "How dare you steal the blind man's $100". Of course he's mute so no sounds come out and the blind man has no idea what's going on at this point, but the deaf man can read lips, so he understands the mute man's meaning just as well as if he were speaking aloud.
In fact the deaf man does not know that the mute man is mute because everybody is equally silent from his perspective. So as far as he knows the blind man has just heard the accusation made by the mute man, so he reacts as any theif would and protests out loud, saying something like "How dare you accuse me, I never stole the $100", and by denying it alerts the blind man to the theft.

M$it was suggested that instead of mute, the terminology was "dumb", which can mean mute as in not being able to speak, or just mentally challenged, in which case he would be able to tell the blind man.
but i'm thinking... gonna do some searching... i'll be back if i find something.

M$hehe! There are a lot of variations to the question... I've also seen other ones like Deaf slept with Blind's wife or they each had an orange..or whatever. It's a tricky one!
For the moment, we're mostly wondering why they need $100 for on a deserted island anyway....
When I searched this question before, tons of people suggest that but apparently it's not right. I guess mute doesn't know braille. Sorry, should've mentioned that in the question.
I got four people thinking about this here at the office now...
