Thinking up the perfect money saving tip of the day, any suggestions?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Don't spend your ones. Anytime you get change back stick your ones in a drawer or box. I know it sounds corny, but I tried it for 3 months and ended up with $372. The trick is to keep your hand out of the cookie jar!

Set aside automatic transfers with your bank to put a certain amount from your checking to your savings account each time you get paid.
If you don't see it, you can't spend it. And then you're automatically building your savings. You'll be surprised how this can add up over time.

Use coupons! You'd be surprised how much you can save using coupons consistently. We often get some of our groceries for free, or even make money buying them. It's pretty cool to effectively get paid a dollar or more for taking an item out of a store.

Also, eat in more often. We tend to spend much more on restaurant (even fast food) meals than on meals made at home.

I've been doing this for years. At the end of every day, I put all my change in a pot at home, except enough for my morning coffee. 2 years ago I took it to the bank after about 16months and had over $700 in it.

I did the same this year and had over 350euro..it paid for our flights to stockholm this autumn.
