thinking of starting a Crossfit program. Anyone have any experience with Crossfit?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Crossfit is amazing! They have it at my Krav Maga school.
I like how they choose exercises that encourage a full range of motion. The goal in to improve for practical strength and endurance instead of sculpting the body with isolation exercises. It's all about real world usefulness instead of looking sexy.

The variety is great too, as every day you are doing something different. This helps prevent boredom and doesn't give your body a chance to habituate to a static routine.

When completing a workout, the goal is to perform all of the prescribed tasks as quickly as you can. If you are in fairly good shape, the workouts are shorter in duration than you might expect (but they will still exhaust you). If you are in poor shape you do the same workout as everyone else, but at a slower pace. (You might also use an easier variation on certain exercises, but perform the same number of reps.) Thus, people of different abilities levels can all do the program as everyone goes at their own speed.

If you are trying to get into better shape, lose weight or even just maintain fitness, it's an excellent program. I don't know if they all do this, but my place has also brought in a dietitian/nutritionist a couple of times to lecture and answer questions.
