Hollywood often chooses to reproduce what is popular with moviegoers. The audience is fickle, and if you see similarities between movies it is likely due to the fact that Hollywood producers know that it is better to risk having something similar that is popular than something way out there that is not. Unfortunately, CGI tends to start looking similar even without intention.
