The subject of past versus present comes up in many conversations and music is no exception. From the Sugar Hill Gang to Jay-Z, Michael Jack
son, Usher etc; the question is often raised as to which era of music is better. So my question to everyone is do you prefer the artists/groups in the current era or the groups from earlier generations? Also provide a reason, or two as to why you feel that your choice is accurate.

For me the past is much more superior than the present.
1.Quality(Past) vs Quantity(Present)
In the past people understood the simple concept of quality. They had great respect, love, patience for perfecting their craft. They knew that they had to set a certain standard or produce above board to satisfy the masses anything less would be suicide. The artist in the past where more natural no technology to rely on or to assist them. I love all types of music but the two that i was practically weaned on that is still prevalent today is rap and reggae(dub). As Nas said Hip Hop is dead that statement is true to certain extent but i think what he should have said is Hip Hop is becoming retarded. When you have sounds like Shake that Laffy Taffy when you think about it sounds like something a ten year old would come up with. Now take that sound and compare it to Wu Tang Clan masterpiece Triumph cant no way you can compare. I usually tell my friends when you hear these present day rappers sing it would encourage you to pick up the mic. But when you hear Pac,Run DMC,Wu Tan Clan etc your like how the hell he,she them come up with that. Plus the past singers had more quality content for singing, dancing, videos and apparel.Music simple and sweet nothing to complicated and they sang about issues thaT nearly everyone can understand.
1. Pleasure factor (Past) vs Material Factor or Corporate Factor (Present)
This is one of the biggest cause for the deterioration for the music. Most present musicians either are for or allow Material Factor or Corporate Factor manipulate them in relation to what type of music they produce. When Hip Hop first came into being most of the rappers use their songs to educate people about what was going on around them. Now it is more about what is going on with me,what i will be doing and who i will be doing. Even in Sesame Street it is a main factor when i was younger i would have watch the entire hour of show. Now you have nearly twenty-five minutes dedicated to Elmos's World why do we need this???
Back then i think musicians relied more on their own talent rather than technology
They relied more on presentation
They relied more on producing music with a high quality content of lyrics
They relied more on pleasing the masses than their own egos and filling their pockets with money
Back then people where more humbled
And i can go on and on
Although we do have some good musicians and groups(very very very very few) in this era i prefer the ones in past
