The scariest burger guy: Ronald, Jack or the King?

What frightens you most-- the clown from McDonaldland, the giant round head with a pointy hat from Jack in the Box, or the scary masked Burger King face?

Jack seems like the sort of half toy half humanoid that I could get along well with. When he got hit by that bus a couple of Super Bowls ago I must have said 100 rosaries and eaten 100 Jumbo Jacks on his behalf.

The BK King? Creepy, yes. Inopportune in his apparitions, yes. Yet, always benign in the end. Heck, he even stuffs dollars in your pockets as you walk down the street.

Ronald McDonald? In his modern incarnation he seems like the world's first metrosexual clown. I feel that I could sit down with him over a Big Mac and obtain some very useful fashion and interior decoration tips. He would be more like a lunch buddy.

So who do I fear most? I made the mistake once of doing a youtube search for the "original" incarnation of Ronald McDonald, back when Willard Scott portrayed him in the 1960's. Freaky! I would cross the street if I saw him coming. If he were to approach my nieces or nephews, I'd mace him. He looked like the sort of clown that you wouldn't be surprised to hear that he was found dead, with a heroin needle in his arm, his zipper open, soaked in his own waste, with an empty bottle of cheap rye whiskey in one hand and a burned out unfiltered Lucky Strike cigarette in the other; with old Racing Forms and losing parimutuel tickets scattered about the floor of his cheap $5 hotel room; with his bare feet (yes, bare feet because he pawned his big clown shoes just to get one last fix) gnawed to the bone by congregating rats; the lone light bulb swinging from the ceiling as the fumes from his rotting clown corpse creates a convection current in the room.

Did somebody say dead, stinky, rotting clown?

Definitely Ronald, for me. I do not like clowns and have been terrified of them ever since I was a child and have snuck into my mother’s room while she and my stepdad were watching Stephen King’s “It”. Clowns are oftentimes seen as fun, colorful entertainment for children’s birthday parties, but the mysteriousness of all the makeup, wigs, and disguise would not make me feel comfortable enough to allow such a creature to be close to my children on their special day. LOL. Yes, I know, Halloween is also a time for costumes and many teens, kids, and even adults go out and wear much creepier costumes. But there is just something about a clown that does not add up for me and gives me the creeps. They are portrayed as funny and sometimes sad, most do not talk but just make physical gestures, but to me there is something fishy about this huge, evidently grownup who is dressed up to act like a clumsy, shy, and sometimes immature individual to impress young children.

hahahaha - how funny - I never put it all together but I think it would have to be the king because of those damn freaky commercials that just weird me out when I see them. Plus, the smile is sinister. I just know that if whoever is in the commercial doesn't eat the hamburger then something bad will happen. I think the phantom of the opera hides behind that mask. Walk with one hand above your head at all times.

We don't have any jacks around here so I don't have to see those commercials but the one you have linked makes him pretty scary too.

The least scary would be Ronald for me. I think because he seems friendly and I think he goes to visit the kids at the Ronald McDonald house. For his altruism and the fact that he shows up personally, I think he gets the fabliaux seal of approval.

The Burger King is hands down the scariest of them! Why? I think it has to do with the "uncanny valley" - basically, if something fake looks *just* human enough, then it's going to come off as creepy. Wikipedia has a good article about it if you want to find out more. But the Burger King definitely falls here. It doesn't help that the ads keep putting him in creepy situations, like IN BED WITH YOU.

The King makes me think he is a pedophile. It might be the creepy way he lurks around or his small hands. Either way he totally creeps me out.

When I was younger it was Ronald hands down, but that was likely because I watched Steven King's IT at about age 5. Now I'd agree.. it's the King, always showing up when you're asleep to shove sub-par, puke inducing burgers in your face. (I am not a fan of fast food lol)

I admit that Ronald McDonald and the round headed Jack in the Box are a little creepy. But I have to say that that darn King from Burger King has to beat all. I've hated that guy from the first time they used him in the commercial. I don't even think freaky fits him.. I think he is much worse! They, they put him in stupid situations that just make him creepier. Burger King needs to get a new mascot.. Desperately!
