The Orlando Magic advanced to the Conference Finals for the second year iin a row.

After sweeping away both of their opponents in the first two rounds, the Magic are the only undefeated team in the playoffs. Aside from Dwight Howard and Vince Carter, what players must step up in the next round if the Magic are to make it back to the Finals to possibly avenge last year’s five game loss to the Lakers?

Jameer Nelson will need to elevate his game as will Rashard Lewis and Matt Barnes. Even if they do, it will be tough for the Orlando Magic to defeat the Boston Celtics who are bigger up front and quicker at the point. The fact that Boston has a deep, talented, but tempermental bench will also come into play. If Rasheed Wallace feels like playing that alone will spell trouble for the Magic. Howard will have a tough time trying to man the boards against Perkins, Garnett, Wallace and Glen Davis without any help. Add that Wallace is also a three point shooter and it does not look good for the Orlando boys. There best chance if the Celtics play old or get injured. If a speed game is needed, Boston can reach to their bench and pull in Nate Robinson. Big match up problem there. But hey, if Howard's boys can limit the Bean town front line and hold in Rondo, you never know. I expect to see Boston improve significantly after the first game. Whether Orlando can shake off the cobwebs will play heavily into the final result.

The Orlando Magic have won all of their playoff games this year. Having well rounded play from Dwight Howard and Vince Carter has helped, but to keep the Magic advancing Jameer Nelson and Rashard Lewis will have to keep playing at a higher level then they did during the regular season. Nelson is a extremely talented point guard that can attack a team multiple ways. He needs to keep distributing the ball well by opening up plays for Howard and Carter. The X factor in this series is going to be Rashard Lewis. Last year during the NBA finals Lewis had very inconsistent play. Lewis scored 6 and 8 points in two of the five games against the Lakers. This after averaging double digits every playoff game leading up to the finals. If Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson can play a consistent game, this might be the year the Magic win the big one.

Well, since Orlando has now finally gotten handed a few losses it is even more clear what the team needs to win a couple of games and get back into the Eastern Conference Finals matchup and not get swept right out of the playoffs. I don’t think it is one player stepping up to take over the team so much as it is two players stepping up at the same time. Vince Carter and Dwight Howard are the two most important cogs in the Magic machine, and I think it’s going to be more important for both players to have a good game at the same time in order to beat the Celtics. In their game one 3 point loss to the Celtics, Howard scored 30 points, but Carter had just 16. In game two, Carter had 23, but Howard had just 13. Considering that loss was only by four points if the two players can score consistently at the same time, it appears that would equal a win. Or enough wins to get back to the NBA finals.

The Orlando Magic finds their opponents in the first two rounds of the 2010 NBA Playoffs as relatively easy assignments, but in the Eastern Conference Finals they finally meet their match and they are on the verge of getting eliminated in the playoffs as they are trailing the Boston Celtics on their series 2-3. The Magic lost three straight games to the Celtics, but took Games 4 and 5 to get back on the series but still needs to sweep their two last games to advance and make a history in the NBA. If ever the Magic will clinch the series they will be the very first team in the league to climb back from 0-3 deficit to win a playoffs series.
If ever they will make a miracle they will surely give the Los Angeles Lakers a run for their money in the 2010 NBA Finals. If ever these two teams will clash, their chances are 50-50 for me, with either team capable of winning the title because both of the teams have ample resources.
