The only streaming video that works well on my G4 besides YouTube is Hulu. Why can't ABC, NBC, WB et. al. make their stuff lighter weight?

Because they want to offer the best experience they can, but are scared about piracy so they load up on DRM (digital rights management) which has a lot of overhead.
