The Onion's articles about President Bush mishaps?

They're funny, but I'm not sure of the meaning behind this running joke. Is it just because everyone is so excited about Obama, nobody is really paying attention to Bush anymore? Any ideas?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$I also notice that the final sentence is the same on both linked articles. "President Bush is resting comfortably in Bethesda Naval Hospital." Maybe the joke is the matter-of-fact, lifeless way a newspaper reports incidents of great import or drama. And the fact that it's happening to President Bush would be more like an afterthought.
I think this second theory is bolstered by past Onion articles that revel in elaborate descriptions of horrifying, gruesome trauma.

M$Oh my goodness...something like this nearly happened for real. An Iraqi reporter threw a shoe at President Bush. He ducked though.
Gotta admire the guys reflexes.
