The Olympic dvd's I recorded for my friend won't play on his machine - 'disc error.' Is it manufacturer incompatibility? What to do? Peter
I used double layer recordable dvd's on my Pioneer recorder and Mitsubishi player will take them his instruction book reads. I have never had a problem playing other home recorded dvd's. Is there a dvd recorder make on the market for which this will not happen?

Some older and many 'more expensive' dvd players are really, really fussy regarding the media that they will play.
it may be worth seeing if you PC can play them, and if so use (for example) dvdfab to create single layer dvd's from your dual layer ones (it will be slightly lower quality).
I had a lot of issues with a Sony DVD player not playing disks that where recorded, yet the $30 Walmart dvd player will play absolutely anything.
My solution was to use branded single sided (cheap) dvd's and use dvdfab to convert dual layer to single layer.
