Will the Washington Redskins win the NFC East?

The NFC East has been a strong division with the Washington Redskins recently being at the bottom of the standings. With the trade of Donovan McNabb, does this propel the Redskins in the standing and perhaps put the Eagles in the basement? Or do you think Kevin Kolb could be better than anyone can expect having not played much and keep the Eagles in playoff contention? What about the New York Giants, who do not appear as strong as in recent years? Do they perhaps fall out of the playoff picture in 2010? The Cowboys appear to clearly be the top of this division. Any thoughts ?

The Redskins have been hampered by Daniel Snyder to the point that if you had a poll around the Washington DC Belt Line about who was the least liked man in DC he would get the nod. Snyder will have had 6 coaches in 11 years and the only one who had any success was Joe Gibbs. And Gibbs, the NFL Hall of Fame coach, could only reach the playoffs using every ounce of effort he could muster.

This year Snyder looks to be trying to turn things around. They Redskins actually used their first round for a legitimate Offensive Tackle in Trent Williams. While this might look like a change, I doubt a tiger can change his stripes. Snyder will still sooner or later try to be a Jerry Jones and buy some older nifty player so he can have dinner with them.

Washington DC, however, does not have the market the Dallas Cowboys have. You will never see a Texas Stadium in DC, so the amount of top notch players Snyder can draw is limited. I don’t care how good a talent Donovan McNabb is, if he spends as much time running for his life like Jason Campbell did and hitting players in the hands to see them drop the ball he will be thinking retirement.

As long as Snyder is in charge the Redskins can only be so good. Heck there is even Terrell Owens talk.

Honestly, the way the teams in the NFC East seem to be shaping up, I don’t think there’s going to much change from top to bottom as far as the standings. Certainly the acquisition of Donovan McNabb is going to improve the Washington Redskins to some degree, but they still have a real mess at running back. I don’t think McNabb has the tools at this point in his career to completely turn a team around to the point that will be needed to win the NFC East. They’ll be better, but not division champion better.

The Cowboys look like they are just reloading for yet another strong push, and I honestly think the Eagles built back enough through the draft that if Kolb is even mediocre they are going to win a good amount of games. Kolb was not exactly lights out in relief of McNabb last year, but he was far from terrible and he has a better receiver corps than McNabb had to settle with for years. LeSean McCoy looks like he is going to pick up where Brian Westbrook left off. And then of course there’s one of the more exciting players in the NFL today in DeSean Jackson.

Fairly unlikely - the Cowboys and the Giants are better
