'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' ...how did you interpret the ending?
Just saw 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' and loved it. Visually stunning, great costumes, great characters and awesome story. Was curious about the ending, though...I think there could be at least a couple different interpretations of it.
If you saw this movie, what was your interpretation of the ending? Or to look at it another way, was the doctor really an immortal or just a weary dreamer?

From my own opinion he is an immortal. If you can remember, at the end, after he saved his daughter and all was settled, he was watching her and her family through a window and did not go to them, showing that he had moved on with his never ending life.
I think the film is based on the fight of a father (Doctor Parnassus) to save his daughter from a doomed end which he himself had committed her to and also about the choices people make, how it affects others and the morality behind our actions.
Director Terry Gilliam has always been known for this kind of films. I have not really met anyone that truly understood it, and when a person complain that he or she just don’t get the ending, some people would say that we are just not clued into Gilliam's genius.
I agree Terry Gilliam is a genius and he has a way of bringing ones fantasies to life with his movies. What I do anytime I watch his movies, is not to expect an expected end, and just enjoy the film for the moment.
