Canongate publisher and managing director Jamie Byng has acquired world rights to Nick Cave's second novel, nearly 20 years after his début. Byng, who described the Death of Bunny Munro as "a modern Faustus of sorts", acquired the rights through Cave's lawyer, David Glick. Byng said, "This novel is going to shock and amaze a lot of people."
The book traces the fortunes of one man and his son on a road trip around the south coast of England following the suicide of his wife.
The book
The Death of Bunny Munro recounts the last journey of a salesman in search of a soul. Following the suicide of his wife, Bunny, a door-to-door salesman and lothario, takes his son on a trip along the south coast of England. He is about to discover that his days are numbered. With a daring hellride of a plot The Death of Bunny Munro is also a modern morality tale of sorts, a stylish, furious, funny, truthful and tender account of one man’s descent and judgement. The novel is full of the linguistic verve that has made Cave one of the world's most respected lyricists. It is his first novel since the publication of his critically acclaimed debut And the Ass Saw the Angel twenty years ago.
Here are a few reviews about the book:
The Reviews
The Death of Bunny Munro is not just a wonderful read, it's also a heartbreaking one. Cave writes novels like he does lyrics, with strokes of blood and sulphur and lightning. He strikes at the mind and heart and is able to bring his readers to their knees.

Cocksman, Salesman, Deadman; Bunny Munro might not be Everyman, but every man ought to read this book. And read it half in stitches, half in tears.
