The time of day is SO important here. In the early morning (or at the start of a new day) I would prefer a donut to a cupcake. Coffee MUST accompany this "hole in one" and my choice would be a pumpkin donut or apple spice.
Later in the day, pass the cupcakes. If it's the SAME day I had a donut, I would try to keep it on the healthy side :) - carrot cake with cream cheese frosting - or pumpkin spice! More coffee is mandatory along with this delicacy.
Cupcakes will probably always reign supreme. They are perfect for holding a birthday candle!
