The Bloom Box, the life saver, or just an expensive hype?
Only thing: it costs around $700,000-$800,00.
If the price would go down, would you be willing to have one of these installed at your home? How low would the price tag have to drop to make you seriously consider it?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

$700,000 - $800,000 ?!?
If this price is correct this box could generate free lunches as well as electricity and I would not be able to afford it or even see it as a rational device to buy and use. My monthly electricity bill is usually $125.00+/- so if I received the same benefit John Donahoe does using his set of Bloom Boxs and saved 15% a quick bit of math will easily show how long it would take me to recoup my purchase price let alone save me any money... Ice Ages would come and go .. humans would become extinct and then re-evolve again before there was any savings.
I will look further into this but without this Bloom Box dropping to less than $10,000 USD a lot less hopefully I just cannot see it as something that would be, to use the term from Falling Down,.."economically viable" for most Americans. One would have to be Richy Rich and like to spend to even consider this otherwise.

M$The only drawback I can see is the price which is very costly and I think only big companies like Google and eBay can afford. But if the cost will lower down $5000 to $10,000, I think I will consider purchasing one.

M$Hey @annelisle, thanks for your answer. I'm not sure the price will go down THAT much, but I really hope so. Just keep in mind this thing is a one-time investment, and NO MORE ELECTRICITY BILLS :)
I really like the sound of that!

You have to take into account that this Bloom Box has been in development for nearly a decade, and has just been released. It is now for the 'early adopters' and for some businesses. Price will almost surely go down in the near future, as they can start mass production. I personally hope this will get below $50,000 in about five-ten years, to make it a true alternative.
Sounds good?

Yup, that's the price tag that's currently doing the rounds. Bloom Energy is planning an announcement in a day or two, maybe a huge price-drop, or a 'Home owner edition'?
Wow Mith that price is steep..I like the idea of a homeowner version..I would pay $200,000.00 for the Bloom Box if I could get one with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (master w/jacuzzi), a great back yard, a 3 season porch, 10 minutes from the highway, and a skylight. :)
There was a press conference, and actually, the Bloom Box produces enough energy to power several dozens of houses. That changes the price tag quite a bit!
