The airbag light is on in my Honda Accord - what could that mean? Should I get it checked?

What does it mean when the "airbag" light is on in my 2006 Honda Accord? It's one of those red lights that looks like a person and an airbag but I don't know what it could mean.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Unless your airbag has deployed recently, the light is on for no reason and needs to be reset. Here are the Do It Yourself instructions for resetting the light:

You definitely should get the service light checked. When a light comes on, there is something wrong inside. It may just be the light itself, maybe a diode is not functioning properly or there is a false message from one part of your engine to another. That does happen from time to time. But there is only one way to know. Pull into the service dealership and get it checked.
Yes, stopping is a pain. Especially when it turns out really nothing at all is wrong. But ignoring that light is easy to do. Too, too many people ignore the warning sign, and then it’s a bigger repair than it would have been if they’d taken the time to check out what was wrong in the first place.
