1. Nobody in my family has died yet this year. We've been hit pretty hard the last several years, and I'm thankful for the break. My nephew nearly died with liver failure brought on by medication, but was able to recover to some extent, and he is not in danger at this time.
2. My daughter graduated from college with a teaching degree and got engaged to a great guy. Although she couldn't find a teaching job, she is getting steady work as a substitute, especially with so many teachers out because of the H1N1 flu epidemic.
3. After losing my job in March at age 50, I've had plenty of time to reconnect with long lost friends and begin working on some lifelong dreams.
4. We've discovered the blessing of being on the receiving end of food bank distributions after being faithful in donations for over ten years.
5. In August I adopted the motto of "gratitude above everything". Instead of chasing after happiness, I spend time everyday considering all the beautiful things that surround me, things which I in no way deserve. On the road to being grateful, I found happiness.
Here's a beautiful video that says it well:

At the beginning of 2009, my mother was diagnosed with throat cancer and we were told that it was a slow growing cancer. However, within one month of the initial diagnosis the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes.
She went to see the oncologist and she was told that she would have to have very aggressive radiation treatments and three rounds of chemotherapy. The doctor informed her that her body probably would not be able to handle the chemotherapy and to go home and get her affairs in order.
After 3 months of radiation treatments 5 days a week, she survived and we found out Thursday that she is now in remission and the initial tumors are gone!
So, this year Thanksgiving holds a new meaning for my family and we've learned to treat everyday like Thanksgiving because tomorrow is not promised to anyone!

If I make it to Thanksgiving (anything can happen between now and then) I am first and foremost giving thanks simply for making it through another year. As one with a chronic illness, it is always a miracle to me to complete another 12 months of life.
Secondly, I'm thankful that my children are alive, well, and pursuing what they love. I'm so thankful they did not fall into the trap of having to just have an income like I did, and are planning their futures around what they truly want to do, not what they have to do.
Third, I'm thankful that I live in a country where we have more freedoms than any country on earth. It's been a rough year, financially and spiritually, for me, but I cherish the fact that I will not be shot in the streets by my own government for protesting the results of an election, or stoned to death for looking at a man other than my husband, or punished for getting pregnant by being raped while unmarried.
Fourth, I'm thankful that with all its faults, my government has seen to it that I am not hungry. I know that can't be said for some, but in my case, even though I didn't want to be in this position, I qualified for and get food stamps which keep me from starving. In many countries, there are no such programs, and when someone is out of work, they and their families are just left to fend for themselves.
Fifth, I'm thankful that I live in a country where I am not jailed, tortured or killed because of my religion. I'm a pagan, and even though I face discrimination, I don't see the government coming to get me because I don't believe the way they believe. It must be terrifying to live somewhere where something so simple as faith can doom you and your family.

I have two of the best cats in the world who are not only great company but also give me a chance to be needed.
I have a new bicycle and the ability to ride it in my advancing years!
I have not lost the desire to learn or the desire to better myself.
I wake up every morning wondering what I will be able to accomplish today!

2. I am thankful for the family I was blessed with; they really care about me and love me. I can always count on them to be there for me when I need them. I cam count on my mother’s listening ear and advise; and a shoulder to cry on when it is needed.
3. I am thankful that I have completed my degree while holding down a full time job, it was challenging at times, but I have completed it and I am thankful.
4. I am thankful for my job, although it is challenging most of the times, it pays the bills and it keeps the roof over my head.

I will also be giving thanks that my mother-n-law is doing better. She is in the hospital now but she is being taken good care of. She has Emphysema and C.O.P.D. and is on a breathing machine but she is doing a lot better than she was a couple of weeks ago. She almost died too!
I am also thankful for my mom and dad being there for me when I needed them while my husband was in the hospital. I am thankful for my beloved pets who love me unconditionally. I am thankful for the roof over my head, the food in my refrigerator, and the warm clothes on my body. I will be giving thanks for a lot on Thanksgiving and everyday before and after. :)

I am thankful that my children nor myself truly know what hunger is. I am thankful I am not wondering how much longer it will be until the flood waters will recede from my home but am also thankful I have been given enough to be able to share with those still wading through several feet of water and walking on recently made bamboo bridges to get to their homes even if it means living on the roof or in the second floor only.

My children have a new dad. They will be officially adopted after Christmas. My daughter is finally someone's little girl and my son has for the first time, someone he can be proud of. Also they have a new brother and sister. I got married in may and his little family has really enriched ours very much.
Both my husband and I have been successful in keeping our jobs in this rough economy even though at times it seems like we just don't make enough to pay the mounting bills.
I am greatful that my husband was able to go home for a week to see his sister in law before she died. He was able to spend a full week with her and she died 3 days after he got home.
I am greatful that we escaped another year of hurricane season. Very little excitement has happened since hurricane Katrina. My children and I were stranded here but we survived. Thank you.
But the one thing that my children and I are greatful for is that my husband and their new dad will be home for Thanksgiving and for Christmas. We are expecting his notification soon as to when he will be getting deployed, but looks like it will be around the end of January or February. This will be hard for us so I will be asking for prayers for our family and the families who are already doing without their loved ones.

I am thankful for the family, "chosen" family, and friends I have with me. I am thankful I have no regrets in my life other than my weight (lol) and for the experiences I have been able go through who have made me what I am today. I am most thankful for a second chance...A chance to start a new chapter in life. After falling into some serious hardships about a year and a half ago and then recently finishing school top of my class and having all my opportunities for sucess back I am still extremely thankful to all those who believed in me and knew I would make it through and continue on to conquer my dreams. :)

For Thanksgiving and actually everyday, I am thankful my husband is alive! He had double pneumonia and ended up on a respirator for six days and almost died. He is lucky to be alive and I am very much grateful to God for that! I will also be giving thanks that my mother-n-law is doing better. She is in the hospital now but she is being taken good care of. She has Emphysema and C.O.P.D. and is on a breathing machine but she is doing a lot better than she was a couple of weeks ago. She almost died too!

I am thankful for the life I know. I am thankful for an eye opening year which has given me the opportunity to realize how blessed I am. I am thankful for the survival of my friends in the recent typhoons and thankful for those who are trying to help with recovery efforts.
