Serena has the edge in matches between the sisters. I think she'll take it in a close, hard fought final.
Asker's Rating:
• The Venus picks had more creativity to the responses - but Serena won this time - and @kerryk gave us a bit more in this answer, so congrats on your pick for the Ladies 2009 [[Wimbledon]] champ Serena Williams.

Well it's always looked like it throughout the tournament it would be these two sisters in the final once again. I think Serena is a better all around player as she has been far more competitive in other grand slams of recent years including a win at the Australian Open this year against current World number 1 Dinara Safina who may have been a walkover today but is no walkover on the indoor surface. So Serena has had a better year of it so far this year.

Serena's performance today showed a few things:

1) On Grass she isn't untouchable

2) She is a real battler and doesn't give in

3) She has some very powerful Groundstrokes

Venus' performance showed a few things:

1) She is at the top of her game

2) She is the best returner in the women's game on grass

3) She is untouchable on grass :D

Until today's matches I was not able to decide who I thought would win the Women's tournament because I thought it was too close to call, but Venus is my pick as she is looking like she is at the top of her game and is one of the best ever tennis players on grass and hasn't dropped a set in her last 32 at Wimbledon which is a remarkable stat. She has the most powerful serve in the Women's game and is also the best returner on grass, the two fundamentals of tennis. She is the defending champion of Wimbledon now two years running and is trying to equal Steffi Graaf's hat-rick of Wimbledon's.

On the other hand though you can never write off a battling muscular Serena Williams :P She has a chance still I believe, but I think Venus is by far the favorite :)

Judging by the fact that Venus Williams has won the last 5 Wimbledon Grand Slam titles, I would suggest that there is no competition. Serena will be the winner.

Against the odds? Not necessarily. You see, Serena has won 20 Grand Slam titles, compared to Venus' 17 grand slams. This may seem to prove insignificant, as both amounts are great.

However, Serena, after losing to Venus last year, and once again missing out on her 21st Grand Slam title, must be feeling terribly frustrated at losing to her older sister.

They have met in 7 grand slam finals, and their current record is set at 10-10. They have both been ranked world No.1 at some stage, Serena for 66 weeks, and Venus for 11.

Their most recent meeting, in the Semi-final of the Sony Ericsson Open, Serena won, so naturally she will have the mental advantage.

And although Venus won at Wimbledon last year against her younger sibling, Serena has beaten Venus in the Billie Jean Exhibition Cup final since then.

To be honest, this is extremely close-to-call. I wouldn't put my money down on either of them. I can only finish by saying...How can neither of them currently be world #1? Safina hasn't won a single grand slam!

Venus hasn't won the last 5 Wimbledon's, she has won 3 of the last 5 actually, Sharapova and Mauresmo won the other 2 of the 5, but Serena hasn't won since 2003. I don't get how you can say Venus has won the last 5 which is wrong anyway then Serena will win no doubt lol :P Also even though Venus has won more grand slams that is kind of Irrelevant as Venus has won 5 Wimbledon titles and Serena has only won 2 which makes Venus favorite of course.

Safina is number one by the way because of her consistency in all competitions throughout the past year, she has been way more consistent than the Williams players and she has got to 2 out of the 3 grand slams finals this year.

Venus will win.
Why?

*She's strong right now - she's playing terrifically well. The #1 in the world was no match for her at all. See her playing Safina here:

http://sports.yahoo.com/video/player/feat/14280553

*Venus is not making mistakes. Her game has been close to flawless this tournament. In the past, when Serena has beat Venus at big venues, it has usually been in large part because of Venus' mistakes.

**It's well established that Venus is better on grass. She just is.

Cheeseburgers taste better than soy burgers, old Rolling Stones songs are better than new Rolling Stones songs, and Venus Williams is better on grass.

Not just better than Serena. Better than anyone playing. It's just accepted fact.

**Wimbledon, in particular, is a special tournament for Venus. It has been the site of many of her greatest triumphs (far more triumphs than Serena has at Wimbledon). YahooSports has even called the courts of Wimbledon her 'playground.' So this will be like a homecoming of sorts for Venus, showing the world that at 29 years old, she is back and in a very big way.
