Otherwise I'd recommend reinstalling... If its a factory bought computer it probably has a hidden partition to set it back to factory default install like when you took it out of the box. It would take like 20 minutes to restore it. Then just run you updates, reinstall your core software and your up and running again.

If you know what the specific error is, check out Microsoft's web site to see if they have posted a fix. Else, I would do a re-install as dward suggests. Its the safest, sure way to repair the error.
Besides, re-installing Windows every few months is a great way to improve the performance of your PC.

I understand you can be in a crunch and might want to take a chance with a registry cleaner. If your running a solid product like by Symantec or something your probably pretty safe.
But as a IT Professional I'd always recommend for best results and long term positive results. To reinstall; reimage. Same as I'd never recommend a inplace windows upgrade it a bad idea now as the same as it has been for the last 12 years or so.
Just a thought.

Personally, I would not use a registry cleaner. They have caused me more problems than what they've solved. If you know what the specific error is, check out Microsoft's web site to see if they have posted a fix. Else, I would do a re-install as dward suggests. Its the safest, sure way to repair the error.
