The story as told on a recent episode of Windows Weekly by Paul Thurrott and Leo Laporte was that the leaked version was simply walked out of a Chinese Microsoft facility. They eluded to some guy basically just picking up an external hard drive that had the image on it. It's since been made freely available on the Torrent websites. The build number is 6956 that they were referring to, but there seems to be a build 7000 floating around on the interwebs too

You would need to forward the ports you select in your application to your PC's IP address in your router to use torrent files effectively.

Being an internal beta makes it easier to identify the source of the leak (if it were in production, it could have been someone at Microsoft, someone at whatever company is responsible for packing and shipping discs, someone at a store where 7 is sold, or someone who bought 7...)

Where are people downloading Windows 7 from?
Robert Scoble asked where people are getting pirated/early released version of the software from.
From a journalistic and research perspective I'd like to know how they are doing this.

- Fact Refuted
I believe the question is referring to the source of the leak as opposed to the source of the torrent. e.g. JoeBob leaked the beta of Windows 7 to HackerGroup X.

I think it is very clear from the context that the question is asking for where one can download a copy.

The Windows beta has been leaked to torrent sites. The reviews I have read so far are promising. The first source link talks about that, and the second is a review of the newest beta. Cheers!

I may or may not have used warez in the past, but a whole OS seems a little sketchy. I mean, it's not like your virus scanner can catch it when it runs, right? You could compare hashes, but how do you know the hash was prepared from an untampered version?

The successor to Vista.
It fixes most of the issues with Vista (namely, it's more resource efficient) while retaining all of the benefits, too.

Windows 7 is widely available in torrent form. One can simply go to www.btjunkie.org and download the torrent file, which I would suggest be managed with UTorrent (very quick and painless utility). You would need to forward the ports you select in your application to your PC's IP address in your router to use torrent files effectively.

The current version, Pre-release Beta 1, has been recently leaked on torrent websites. I do not know of any websites that are actually hosting the image, so a torrent is currently the only way to go. I am currently trying to download this torrent: http://depositfiles.com/files/t60xwan8a using Opera as my torrent client, but it isn't finding sources.

Well, since it's supposedly an internal beta, the only one who could have leaked it out is someone working for Microsoft... or possibly an organizer at a trade event where 7 was being shown off. Being an internal beta makes it easier to identify the source of the leak (if it were in production, it could have been someone at Microsoft, someone at whatever company is responsible for packing and shipping discs, someone at a store where 7 is sold, or someone who bought 7...)
