What's the best free web statistics tracker? and why?
What is the best software to track visitor statistics and such to a website (e.g. Google Analytics)? I know there's a lot of them out there. I've used a lot of them and never really decided on the best and I know they've all changed since the last time I used them.
So, this is what I'd like to know:
1) Which do you think is the best, or which one do you use.
2) What is the best feature associated with that service?
3) Is it 100% free, or does it have both free and paid versions.
Tip goes to the best, well-thought-out, informative answer.

OK he wanted best, not a running list :)
My third favorite is extremetracking.com, because of all the details they can give you. Here's an example of one. Scroll down and click on links to see all the information it actually keeps track of:

My second favorite is statcounter.com, because of the same reason above, and also because you can keep things private, whereas the free version of extremetracking.com requires you to display the image.

My top favorite is google analytics, because it's just really good, it's accurate, it tells you traffic sources as well as where they go after visiting each page. It also allows you to track individual outgoing links by you putting a code within each link. I track affiliate links coming to my site as well as links going out from my site.

The best well known brand I believe is Google Analytics, yet there are others out there that certainly rival Google Analytics, such as Yahoo! Web Analytics. From a straight feature and functionality test, Clicky is the best analytics tool on the market that is free.
Visit the Get Clicky Comparison below, and see for yourself why Clicky is the best.
http://getclicky.com/#theotherguys
Features that Clicky offer that none of the others offer include:
Developer API, Dedicated Mobile and iPhone versions, Real time goals, conversions, and campaigns, Details about individual visitors, See every action of every visitor, Visitor organizations, Visitor hostnames, Track custom data for every visitor, IP Tags, Real time data, Widgets to put on your web site, Stats via RSS, Popular data in a TagCloud, Spy (a live view of your website), Works with visitors who have disabled javascript, White label the product as your own, Easy integration with WordPress Plugin, FeedBurner RSS stats integration, Google Maps integration, Public statistics, and Affiliate program.
Now you have your answer, but I'm not done there, as I believe it's important that you review the various sites out there, and come to your own conclusion, because you may find a service that is better for your needs or a service that works together with this free service. For instance, if you have a blog you might prefer a service like MyBlogLog, or if you are looking for the exact flow of where people click, you may like Crazy Egg. You may like an open source solution such as Piwik. Some are free, yet as you get more traffic you need to pay for them, so they have a "freemium" model, where they are only free to an extent. Totally agree on Google Analytics. It's what I use on my sites. Unless you run a business that totally depends on you being able to slice and dice the data every way imaginable. Google Analytics will give you more than enough insight into who's doing what on your side (or not)
Google analytics is by far the best!
Also using their 'web master tools' which they are continually improving.
The data within google for the price is seriously the best.
The tools are extremely valuable, setting up the dashboard to tell you exactly what you need to see. The variable landing page testing is very useful as well, and again they are continuing to improve it.
As a side note it's free, it's google ( so it will be around for awhile) and it is easy to transfer to a new marketing person, allowing them to see only certain reports and accessing only certain areas of the reporting.

Yeah, i'd have to agree with Google Analytics, it's got great features, it's got lots of drilldown analysis, and, best of all, IT'S FREE. Also, if you want realtime stats tracking, look at Woopra. DM me, i might just have an invite.
