Netscape's final version was released in early 2008 shortly after the parent company, AOL, announced it would drop support for the product. It looks like you can still download older versions of Netscape, but it sounds like it's discouraged by AOL.
It's said that Netscape's doom came when AOL sued Microsoft for anti-trust violations. As a result, Microsoft paid AOL a butt ton of money and also got the rights to use Internet Explorer as part of the AOL service for seven whole years.
