Whatever happened to Google Voice?
answers (2)
Its going live soon, ask around, maybe you can score and invite...
also try ebay for invites...
I've been using Google Voice since it was released and its predecessor Grand Central for a year now.
Google bought Grandcentral and rebranded it Google Voice.
Google Voice also has a plugin for Firefox:
http://thatsmith.com/2009/03/google-voice-add-on-for-firefox/
simply point and click and it dials the number...
and the google Toolbar:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/voice/thread?tid=29f67f1d8daa7585&hl=en
(instructions are halfway down the page..)
I use both as well and feel they add a lot to a very nice service.
I'm extremely pleased with it and have even directed the calls to my Magicjack number. I like the ability to record calls (though I don't think about it until AFTER someone says something important) and I really like the Voicemail transcription feature.
No more listening to voicemails to figure out whats going on.
I do have problems sometimes with call quality but think it is either cordless phone interference or magicjack. When I am on cellohone, calls are clear and easy to understand..

A week after you posted this question (June 25, 2009), Google Voice made the service available as invite only.
The request for invitation is available here
