AP News puts out an app that has push notifications. They published the app, and did Beta Testing with Push prior to Apple releasing the 3.0 to the public. Developers had the privilege of using the push feature with AP News releases in about June of 2009. The function worked very well then, and it still works great. They are more a national entity, and perhaps don't have the detailed local stories that you might want, but it's a great place to start.
