1. ChaCha is exclusively based for the cell phone text message. Mahalo Answers is Web-browser based, but plays nice with services like Twitter and Facebook.

2. ChaCha is only available in the US. Mahalo can be used anywhere in the world.

3. ChaCha is primarily a one-to-one sort of relationship. Although you can view other people's questions, it's not set up to be interactive. Mahalo answers is very interactive and is set up to build a sense of community.

4. Only ChaCha guides answer ChaCha questions. In Mahalo Answers, anyone can answer a question, including Mahalo guides.

5. Mahalo has Mahalo Dollars and the belt ranking system. ChaCha does not.

There are other differences but those were what I could come up with to start.

Mahalo so far is board driven meaning you have to go to the website and check back for answers to a question.

ChaCha is mostly chat driven (worked for them and have a few friends who still do). They answer questions immediately rather than checking back. Their incentive for getting you answers is the more questions they take in, the more money they get paid.

In ChaCha you are at the mercy of a single answerer. Mahalo is all about selecting your favorite answer from a variety of sources. Furthermore, Mahalo gives you the chance to be on the other side of the curtain and answer other people's questions.

Mahalo’s mission is to help users with their search queries such that it directs them to the best links on the Web. We are confident that the links provided on any given search result page are in fact the best, because we have actual people curetting them. We also provide a synopsis/explanation of the search term, giving the user a brief, comprehensive overview of the topic. We like to think of our service as an abridged version of Wikipedia and Google. The virtue of such a service will cut down the time it takes to research, while contextualizing topics in a “scanable” fashion. Our new Mahalo Answers feature provides a platform for questions that are more nuanced and perhaps more obscure. Answers compliments Mahalo’s main feature because it combines the communal aspects of collective knowledge while giving a thorough response to any query. Although Cha-Cha may be similar in construct, Answers will undoubtedly provide more thorough replies to questions because a user can choose from a group of answers. Cha-Cha provides one answer by a person who is getting paid minimally, which will inevitably result in a less comprehensive response.

On Mahalo almost any one can sign up and answer and get paid
Mahalo is not like a job but rather a forum

On ChaCha the answerer is an 'employee' of ChaCha
ChaCha guides must follow ChaCha's rules exactlye

Also it is possible to SMS or phone into ChaCha and not Mahalo

Another difference is chat and forum:
ChaCha is a chat and is live
Mahalo is a forum and you have to enter the website and look it up to find out if your question has been updated

Another:
Mahalo users must pay if the person who answers gets a tip ChaCha is free and the guide always gets paid

ChaCha has an entry exam. Also a complicated payment scheme that is not advantageous to the answer specialist.
