Unfortunately, Facebook does enforce limits on the number of friends a person can have. However, they do not disclose how they calculate these limits. They claim that it has something to do with time, speed, and quantity. The formula is intended to prevent spamming accounts.
For people struggling with these limits, there is an alternative to friends called "fans". You can indeed be a fan of Leo Laporte. I cannot find the TWiT episode, but I recall him saying he already has something like 15,000 friends.

Treid to add Leo Laporte as a friend in Facebook but received an error message saying "this user has too many friends." Is that possible?
