If you're a student, ask your Apple Genius about their educational discount. You might even get a relative or friend to buy one for you under their student discount.
Many corporations also have Apple discounts. Just ask at the Apple store and they can look up your employer to see if you qualify. Many government employees are covered as well.
Keep an eye on www.dealmac.com. They track Mac and Mac accessory prices.
Then there's Macrumor's Mac Buyer's Guide. http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#MacBook_Pro
Congratulations! You're getting a great computer.
Oh, btw, keep a close eye on MacMall. I tried to buy from them, but their prices change from day to day and they can be quite sneaky about it. I ended up not trusting them and went with Amazon where I paid no tax and got free shipping.

The Online Apple Store has a refurbished section, where they're currently selling previous-generation MacBook Pros, including some Late 2008 unibody MacBook Pros, and some of the non-Unibody MacBook Pros. Be warned, these ARE NOT currently the MacBook Pros with the SD slot and higher specs. You can visit the refurbished section of the Online Apple Store at http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac?mco=MTE3NjY
MacMall has lower prices on current Apple products, but the deals aren't that amazing. The higher-end 15" models are currently $155 off at MacMall, while the 13" models are just $39 off or $70 off. http://macmall.com:80/ttsvr/n/MacBook-Pro/macNavLinks-macNavLinks.222
Both of these links are for the US stores of these sites - you may need to find the correct version of the sites for another region if you don't reside in the United States.
