restoration and verifying software takes ages

iphone suggest an upgrade. so I did but there was an error message suggesting restoration of software. so I did but the "verifying iphone software" never stopped- 3 hours now. need help

Best idea i can come up with is to contact your local Apple store and make an appointment to take it in.
