I have never heard of anyone using their existing SIM in a new iphone because they all come with SIM cards of their own. If you are using the SIM from a previous phone just to avoid typing everything in again I guess that would make sense.

Sorry, I have just noticed the category that your question is in. This must mean you have the iPhone and ATT?

This might be caused by the numbers not matching each other exactly. The SIM might not store numbers with the preceding '1' or might have '+1'. I have never heard of anyone using their existing SIM in a new iphone because they all come with SIM cards of their own. If you are using the SIM from a previous phone just to avoid typing everything in again I guess that would make sense.
