Out of the blue, my computer is unable to play any video in any format. Nothing on screen, but the video timeline skips ahead.

Out of the blue, my computer is unable to play any video in any format. Nothing on screen, but the video timeline skips ahead. Weird thing is that i was in the middle of watching a video when the screen suddenly froze. After that it never really recovered and displayed the above symptoms.

I'm using Windows 7 which has worked well for me thus far, and I don't think its a windows problem. VLC player, DIVX all can't work, with DIVx claiming that my file doesnt have any video output.

Check your Video Card and your Video Codec. Also in the Player which you are using Check the Video Filter. Try changing video output plugin. in VLC it's Tools>Preference>Video>Output.

If the disk that you are trying to play is not damaged
simply reinstall the software for playing the video
for example windows media player etc....
